LIPA REPORT CARD: LIPA Oversight Committee Issues Report
LIPA Oversight Committee Submits Annual Report Including Findings, Recommendations
Lindenhurst, NY – In 2010 Legislators Horsley and Romaine co-sponsored legislation to establish a committee of experts to delve into all of LIPA’s functions and operations and make recommendations that could improve the quality of service and reduce the cost to the Long Island ratepayer.
The bi-partisan legislation was well received by the Legislature and adopted unanimously. The LIPA Oversight Committee is charged with the task of studying and analyzing rates, contracts and practices of the Long Island Power Authority to determine if LIPA is working in the best interests of the Suffolk County ratepayers.
“I would like to applaud the LIPA oversight Committee for their tireless efforts in trying to hold the region’s only electric utility in check” Legislator Horsley stated. “As volunteers to the Legislature and the County at-large, the LOC has devoted a tremendous amount of personal time to this effort. Legislator Romaine and myself along with the LOC will carefully analyze the committee’s report so we can look for any negotiable solutions to problems that face our ratepayers,” Deputy Presiding Officer Horsley concluded.
“The Suffolk County Charter requires the Legislature to provide oversight of LIPA,” noted Romaine. “This committee has done an outstanding job highlighting LIPA’s functional deficiencies and recommending ways to improve operations. I can only hope LIPA management takes a hard look at this report and institutes some of these reforms.”
