Via twitter: The answer is yes, (Governor Cuomo should intervene in LIPA restructuring)! There are lots of questions that need to be answered. My hearing proved that.
Dr. Matthew Cordaro
Co-chairman, Suffolk Legislature LIPA Oversight Committee
Your editorial appropriately concluded that Governor Cuomo should intervene in the LIPA Board’s decision on restructuring the utility. Even though it is hard to imagine that any structure other than full municipalization, where LIPA is directly responsible for all workers, is practical, the LIPA Board must at least delay its decision until the results of the State Inspector General’s audit of the utility ordered by the Governor are made available and digested. This may take months but is vital to making the right call on something which will affect Long Islanders for years to come. Certainly, LIPA’s existing structure and mode of operation are not acceptable. You cannot fix anything until you know what is broken.
