Greenport Muncipal Power, A Model of Sucess For The New LIPA?


The Long Island Power Authority Trustees will be considering becoming a municipal utility with the release of analysts recommendations today.  Greenport residents share their advice with WSHU Reporter Charles Lane on the merits of their energy provider, Greenport Municipal Light which is the oldest municipal utility on Long Island.
 
Points discussed in the piece include advantages of municipal power with lower tax liability, ability to deliver cheap hydropower to LI, local control by the ratepayers and a not for profit company.
